Often Utopian Ideas are much more attractive than those who hold them.
In the end no ideological purist can rid themselves of the ugly facts of biological limitations no matter how beautiful they think their ideology is. To paraphrase Huxley every beautiful idea must contend with ugly facts.
On the flip side there are times when the people are more beautiful than the ideas they hold.
As Madison stated, “The truth is that all men having power ought to be mistrusted."
No matter how good or sincere our ideas if not checked in their will to power they can become a means to harm and dominate others. Much innocent blood has been spilled under the banners of Purity, Identity, Liberty, Equality, and Fidelity.
Security demands power. And in this world nothing is secure and so our fellow mammalian primates will keep demanding more power in the name of securing liberty, purity, fidelity, identity and equality. We must remain vigilant and make a cognitive effort to check this thirst for power and this thirst to worship power.

Edward Gibbon, The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire
“History is the tragic record of heroism and expiation out of control and of man’s efforts to ear expiation in new, frantically driven and contrived ways... The point that I am making is that most of the evil that man has visited on his world is the result precisely of the greater passion of his denials and his historical drivenness...The individual gives himself to the group because of his desire to share in its immortality.”
“In seeking to avoid evil, man is responsible for bringing more evil into the world than organisms could ever do merely by exercising their digestive tracts. It is man’s ingenuity, rather than his animal nature, that has given his fellow creatures such a bitter earthly fate."
